About Me

I've always been dancing, but my experience with professional dance training started over a decade ago when I joined Danceworx in Gurgaon. During my time there, I started noticing that when I was in the studio, I was completely present - my mind wouldn't wander off into things that were happening outside. To put it simply, I felt happy. Being a person who, close to never, expressed using words back then, I found my expression in movement. That was when I realised that the meaning of dance lies beyond the walls of a dance studio, choreographies, etc.  I didn't know what it was then, but I was soon to find out.

In 2012, when I moved to a boarding school, Mayo College Girls School in Ajmer, I had my first experience with Dance/Movement Therapy. The school organised a workshop where I found myself connecting to my feelings and emotions in a way I had never experienced before. Years later, in 2017, after my under graduation, I found my way to the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai for my Diploma in Dance Movement Therapy. My understanding of movement became more profound during this time.  I finally understood who I was and also found that I had begun using words to express myself! After working for three years as a Dance Movement Therapy practitioner, founder of The Yellow Oyster I successful graduated as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist from Goldsmiths University, London in 2023. During my time as a trainee I worked at Sarah Bonnell School in the SEND team and Springfield University Hospital in the Forensic Services with the Psychology and Psychotherapy team, where I continued working upon graduating.

When it comes to Yoga, as I remember it, the year was 2015, when I consciously incorporated it into my life. Soon after, it became a lifestyle for me. Back then, I had consulted a doctor because of immense pain in my shoulders. He said that I have weak shoulders that could cause problems later in life. It was then that I turned to Yoga, and I'm glad I did since, in the years to come, amongst other things, it helped me heal from two knee injuries. Not just physical healing, it has had an impact on my mental well-being as well. The days I would get an anxiety attack, a short time spent on the mat would bring me back to the present.

The practice got me to reflect on myself beyond the time spent on the mat. It taught me patience, discipline, surrendering to the process, being in the " here and now," and so much more!

After all these years, in 2021, I went to the International Sivananda Vedanta Center, Neyyar Dam (Kerala), for my certification.  I would also like to mention two teachers who have helped me shape my yoga journey, Jahnavi Sheriff and Sir Suresh.

I know the story is probably haywire, but truth be told, all three of these practices overlap in my life. The learnings seamlessly flow into each other. They are one to me, and the meaning they hold as a holistic approach to life, something that I experience, is what I want to share with everyone.
